Experiment
Ein Experiment ist ein Versuch.
An experiment is a trial.
Dabei wollen Wissenschaftler etwas herausfinden.
In doing so, scientists want to find something out.
Es geht um eine Idee oder Vermutung, die im Experiment ausprobiert wird.
It is about an idea or hypothesis that is tested in the experiment.
Das Experiment bestätigt dann die Vermutung oder nicht.
The experiment then confirms the hypothesis or not.
Wer zum Beispiel wissen will, ob Eis auf Wasser schwimmt oder nicht, der macht ein Experiment.
For example, anyone who wants to know whether ice floats on water or not does an experiment.
Die Vermutung ist: Eis schwimmt nicht, weil auch andere Dinge im Wasser versinken.
The hypothesis is: ice does not float, because other things also sink in water.
Wenn das Eis aber im Experiment schwimmt, wurde die Vermutung nicht bestätigt.
However, if the ice floats in the experiment, the hypothesis is not confirmed.
Das Experiment ist trotzdem geglückt, weil man etwas herausgefunden hat.
The experiment nevertheless succeeded, because you found something out.
In der Wissenschaft ist es heute schwierig, noch etwas Neues herauszufinden.
In science, it is difficult today to find out something new.
Für ein Experiment braucht man oft viel Zeit und Geld.
For an experiment, you often need a lot of time and money.
Zum Beispiel muss in einem Labor ein Experiment mühsam aufgebaut werden.
For example, in a laboratory, an experiment must be laboriously set up.

Grammar in this text
Subordinate clause with 'weil' (verb-final)
weil auch andere Dinge im Wasser versinken
In clauses introduced by 'weil' (because), the finite verb moves to the very end. This is a key feature of German subordinate clauses after certain conjunctions.
Passive voice with modal verb (Vorgangspassiv)
muss in einem Labor ein Experiment mühsam aufgebaut werden
The passive is formed with 'werden' plus past participle. With a modal verb (müssen), 'werden' appears as infinitive at the end: 'muss ... aufgebaut werden'.
'es ist + Adjektiv + zu + Infinitiv' construction
In der Wissenschaft ist es heute schwierig, noch etwas Neues herauszufinden.
This structure expresses a general evaluation using 'es ist' + adjective + 'zu' + infinitive. It often has a passive meaning: 'it is difficult to find out'.
Relative clause with 'wer' (free relative) and correlative 'der'
Wer zum Beispiel wissen will, ob Eis auf Wasser schwimmt oder nicht, der macht ein Experiment.
'Wer' introduces a relative clause without an explicit antecedent; the main clause begins with the correlative 'der' (then). The verb in the relative clause has end position: 'wissen will'.
