Bankkonto
Wenn man mit einer Karte bezahlt, dauert es manchmal mehrere Tage, bis das Geld tatsächlich abgebucht wird.
When you pay with a card, it sometimes takes several days for the money to actually be debited.
Solange bleibt das Geld noch auf dem Konto und man sieht noch das Geld auf dem Konto, für das man eingekauft hat.
During this time, the money remains in the account, and you still see the money in the account that you used for shopping.
Man muss sich also merken, wie viel Geld man mit der Karte ausgegeben hat, denn wie viel Geld man noch hat, sieht man erst später, wenn man nicht gerechnet hat.
So you have to remember how much money you've spent with the card, because you'll only see how much you have left later, unless you've done the math.
Solange es Bargeld, also Geldscheine und Münzen gibt, brauchen Kinder nicht unbedingt ein Bankkonto.
As long as there is cash, i.e. banknotes and coins, children do not necessarily need a bank account.
Sie können aber mit der Zustimmung ihrer Eltern oder Erziehungsberechtigten ein Konto eröffnen.
However, they can open an account with the consent of their parents or legal guardians.
Das bedeutet: Mama oder Papa müssen dafür unterschreiben.
That means: Mom or Dad have to sign for it.
Dieses Konto erlaubt es aber nicht, überzogen zu werden.
This account cannot be overdrawn.
Oder die Eltern müssen dafür unterschreiben, dass sie für den überzogenen Betrag haften.
Or the parents have to sign that they are liable for the overdrawn amount.
Das bedeutet: Wenn das Kind das Konto überzieht – also mehr Geld ausgibt als auf dem Konto ist – müssen die Eltern das fehlende Geld bezahlen.
This means: If the child overdraws the account – that is, spends more money than is in the account – the parents have to pay the missing money.
Darum unterschreiben die Eltern meistens nur für ein Konto, das ihr Kind nicht überziehen kann.
That is why parents usually only sign for an account that their child cannot overdraw.

Grammar in this text
Indirect questions (indirekte Fragesätze) with verb-final word order
denn wie viel Geld man noch hat, sieht man erst später
The question word 'wie viel' introduces an embedded question as a clause. The finite verb ('hat') goes to the end of the clause. In English, the word order is different ('how much money one still has'), so learners must remember to place the verb at the end in such subordinate clauses.
Passive infinitive with 'zu' (Infinitive of the passive voice)
erlaubt es aber nicht, überzogen zu werden
The construction 'zu + Partizip II + werden' forms the passive infinitive. It is used after verbs like 'erlauben' to say that something is or is not allowed to be done. The presence of 'zu' + 'werden' signals the passive voice, e.g., 'überzogen zu werden' means 'to be overdrawn'.
Relative clause (Relativsatz) with a modal verb
ein Konto, das ihr Kind nicht überziehen kann
The relative pronoun 'das' refers to the noun 'Konto'. In the relative clause, the finite verb ('kann') is placed at the end, and the infinitive ('überziehen') appears before it. This is the standard structure for relative clauses with modal verbs in German.
