Arbeitslosigkeit
Arbeitslosigkeit bedeutet, dass es zu wenig Arbeit gibt für Menschen, die arbeiten wollen.
Unemployment means that there is too little work for people who want to work.
Das kann verschiedene Gründe haben.
This can have various reasons.
Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg musste Deutschland beispielsweise für die Kriegsschäden aufkommen.
After the First World War, Germany, for example, had to pay for the war damages.
Daher ging es der Wirtschaft schlecht und viele Menschen konnten keinen Job finden.
Therefore, the economy was doing poorly and many people could not find a job.
Oder die Industrie setzt viele Maschinen ein und braucht dann weniger Menschen, die arbeiten.
Or industry uses many machines and then needs fewer people to work.
Vielleicht will auch jemand die Arbeitsstelle wechseln, weil ihm die Arbeit nicht gefällt oder weil sie zu schwer ist.
Perhaps someone also wants to change jobs because he doesn't like the work or because it is too difficult.
Wenn er dann kündigt und keine neue Arbeitsstelle findet, ist er arbeitslos, zumindest für eine gewisse Zeit.
If he then quits and doesn't find a new job, he is unemployed, at least for a certain time.
Manchmal wird einem Mitarbeiter auch aus einem bestimmten Grund gekündigt, er verliert also dann seine Arbeit.
Sometimes an employee is also dismissed for a specific reason, so he then loses his job.
Das kann zum Beispiel geschehen, wenn die Firma nicht mit seiner Arbeit zufrieden war, oder wenn die Firma Geld sparen muss oder will.
This can happen, for example, when the company was not satisfied with his work, or when the company has to or wants to save money.

Grammar in this text
Dative passive
Manchmal wird einem Mitarbeiter auch aus einem bestimmten Grund gekündigt
In passive with 'kündigen', the object is dative: 'einem Mitarbeiter'. The dative object retains its case; the passive is formed with 'wird' + past participle.
Subordinate clause with verb-final
weil ihm die Arbeit nicht gefällt
Subordinating conjunctions like 'dass', 'weil', 'wenn' send the finite verb to the end of the clause. Here 'gefällt' comes after pronoun and object.
Separable verb in main clause
Oder die Industrie setzt viele Maschinen ein
In main clauses, the finite part of a separable verb takes position 2, while the prefix goes to the very end. Here 'setzt ... ein' from 'einsetzen'.
