Common questions

How is my writing marked?

On the criteria Goethe-Institut examiners use for that part of the exam: Erfüllung, Kohärenz, Wortschatz and Strukturen at B1 and B2, Aufgabenerfüllung and Sprache at A2, each given a band from A to E and weighted as the exam weights them. A text whose Erfüllung is E scores nothing, as in the exam. The marking is done by AI (GLM 5.3 Flash), so treat the score as an estimate, not a result.

What do I get back?

A band and a note for each criterion, an estimated score out of 100, every mistake marked in your own text with the rule behind it and a link to its grammar point, and your answer written again at your level. The A1 forms are marked field by field against the text.

Are these real Goethe exam tasks?

No. They follow the formats of the Schreiben modules of the Goethe-Zertifikat A1 to B2, with the same instructions and word counts, but they were written for this site by AI (Claude) and are not taken from a paper. German Fluent is not affiliated with the Goethe-Institut.

Is it free?

Task 1 at each level is free with an account. The rest are for members, $5 a month on Patreon.

What is the pass mark?

Goethe-Zertifikat exams are passed with 60 percent. From B1 up each module is passed on its own, so 60 out of 100 in Schreiben is a pass there.
