Common questions

What is in a German vocabulary test?

Two kinds of question, in blocks of five: gap-fill sentences where four words fit the grammar and only one fits the meaning, and der, die or das for the nouns at your level.

Why do the wrong options look plausible?

Because they are the same part of speech and the same level. A distractor you can rule out on grammar alone tests nothing, so the difficulty is in the meaning.

Is there a rule for der, die and das?

There are reliable endings (-ung, -heit, -keit, -schaft and -ion are feminine; -chen and -lein are neuter; -er, -ling and -ismus are usually masculine), but no rule covers the core vocabulary. For those, exposure is the method, which is what these questions drill.

Are the tests free?

Yes. Every test, answer and explanation is free, with no account needed.
