Common questions
How does the speaking exam work?
You take it on your own, by voice or by keyboard. Lena or Jonas is the other candidate and an examiner takes you through each Teil, in the format and about the time of the Goethe-Zertifikat. Both are AI.
How is it marked?
On the criteria Goethe-Institut examiners use for each Teil, with the points per band from the official marking sheet. A Teil whose Erfüllung is E scores nothing, as in the exam. Pronunciation is not marked: speech recognition writes down the words you meant, not how they sounded. The marking is done by AI (GLM 5.3 Flash), so treat the score as an estimate, not a result.
What do I get back?
A band and a note for each criterion, the points for each Teil and a score out of 100, everything you said with each mistake corrected, and the three things to work on first.
Are these real Goethe exam tasks?
No. They follow the formats of the Sprechen modules of the Goethe-Zertifikat A1 to B2, with the same kinds of cards and the examiner's lines from the official procedure, but they were written for this site by AI (Claude) and are not taken from a paper. German Fluent is not affiliated with the Goethe-Institut.
Is it free?
Teil 1 of Exam 1 at each level is free with an account. The full exams are for members, $5 a month on Patreon.
