He lives in Spain now and works in a restaurant there.

Er schreibt: Ich habe Arbeit und Freunde, aber ich denke oft an euch.

He writes: I have work and friends, but I often think of you.

Besuch mich doch bald!

Do come and visit me soon!

Ich lese den Brief noch einmal.

I read the letter once more.

Dann suche ich eine Karte und schreibe ihm eine lange Antwort.

Then I look for a card and write him a long reply.

Vielleicht fliege ich wirklich bald nach Spanien.

Maybe I really will fly to Spain soon.

Grammar in this text

Perfect tense with sein

Heute ist ein Brief für mich gekommen.

Verbs of movement and arrival build the perfect with sein, not haben: ist gekommen.

Imperative

Besuch mich doch bald!

The du-imperative drops the ending: du besuchst becomes Besuch! The word doch makes it a friendly invitation rather than an order.

Dative and accusative together

Dann suche ich eine Karte und schreibe ihm eine lange Antwort.

The person comes first in the dative (ihm), the thing second in the accusative (eine lange Antwort).
