Heimat

Heimat ist der Ort, an dem ein Mensch sich zuhause fühlt, oder woher er kommt.

Home is the place where a person feels at home, or where they come from.

Oft ist das der Ort oder die Gegend, wo jemand als Kind aufgewachsen ist.

Often this is the place or area where someone grew up as a child.

Man spricht aber auch von der Heimat eines ganzen Volkes.

But one also speaks of the homeland of an entire people.

Für jeden Menschen kann „Heimat“ deshalb etwas anderes bedeuten.

For every person, 'home' can therefore mean something different.

Manche denken dabei an einen kleinen Ort, andere an ein ganzes Land.

Some think of a small place, others of a whole country.

Es gibt auch Menschen, die finden, dass jeder die ganze Welt als Heimat ansehen soll.

There are also people who think that everyone should see the whole world as home.

Andere sind ins Ausland gezogen und haben sich dort gut eingelebt.

Others have moved abroad and settled in well there.

Sie können nicht mehr genau sagen, welchen Ort sie als ihre Heimat empfinden.

They can no longer say exactly which place they feel is their home.

Oder aber sie sagen ganz klar, dass sie eine neue Heimat gefunden haben.

Or they clearly say that they have found a new home.
