Grammar in this text

Time expression first, verb still second

Am Montag arbeite ich lange.

The finite verb stands in position two. When a time phrase opens the sentence, the subject moves behind the verb: Am Montag arbeite ich, not Am Montag ich arbeite.

aber joins two main clauses

Die Arbeit ist nicht immer einfach, aber ich mache sie gern.

aber is a coordinating conjunction, so the half after it keeps ordinary main-clause order: subject, then verb. Only the comma marks the break.

am for days, um for clock times

Um zehn Uhr kommt der Trainer

Days take am (am Montag, am Sonntag) and clock times take um (um sechs Uhr, um zehn Uhr). The two are fixed and worth learning as a pair.
