Er lebt jetzt ein Jahr dort und kennt schon viele Leute.

He has been living there for a year now and already knows a lot of people.

Er schreibt: Die Stadt ist groß und die Nächte sind lang.

He writes: the city is big and the nights are long.

Im Januar kommt er wieder nach Hause.

In January he is coming home again.

Dann treffen wir uns und sprechen über alles.

Then we will meet and talk about everything.

German uses the plain present where English says has been living: er lebt jetzt ein Jahr dort. No perfect is needed.

Im Januar kommt er wieder nach Hause.

Months take in dem, written im: im Januar, im Mai. Days take am and clock times take um.

uns for each other

Dann treffen wir uns und sprechen über alles.

wir treffen uns means we meet each other. The pronoun uns does the work English does with each other.
