Other A1 lists

Common questions

How many feminine nouns are in German A1?

The A1 list has 180 feminine nouns, out of 1,038 words at that level and 3,609 feminine nouns from A1 to C2.

Which A1 feminine nouns should I learn first?

Start at the top. The list is sorted by how often a word appears in a large corpus of spoken German, so die Uhr, die Million, die Zeit, die Frau, die Liebe are the ones you will meet most.

How do I know when a German noun takes "die"?

Endings are the most reliable signal: -ung, -heit, -keit, -schaft, -ion, -tät, -ik, -ei and -ur are feminine almost without exception, as are most nouns ending in -e. Beyond that, learn the article with the noun rather than guessing.
