Common questions

How many feminine nouns are in German B2?

The B2 list has 495 feminine nouns, out of 1,998 words at that level and 3,609 feminine nouns from A1 to C2.

Which B2 feminine nouns should I learn first?

Start at the top. The list is sorted by how often a word appears in a large corpus of spoken German, so die Rückkehr, die Schulden, die Luke, die Kate, die City are the ones you will meet most.

How do I know when a German noun takes "die"?

Endings are the most reliable signal: -ung, -heit, -keit, -schaft, -ion, -tät, -ik, -ei and -ur are feminine almost without exception, as are most nouns ending in -e. Beyond that, learn the article with the noun rather than guessing.
