FormDennoch + Verb + Subjekt … | … Verb … jedoch …
Meaning and usage
dennoch means nevertheless, all the same: a more formal trotzdem. It is a connecting adverb, so in position 1 the verb comes straight after it: Meine Frau hat ihre Fehler. Dennoch liebe ich sie. It can also stand later: Ich fühlte mich nicht gut, ging aber dennoch arbeiten.
jedoch means however. It can take position 1 (Jedoch kam er nicht), but more often it stands after the verb: Sie sieht jung aus, ist jedoch über vierzig. Both belong to writing and careful speech; aber and trotzdem are their everyday partners. A common mistake is subject-verb order after them: Dennoch ich liebe sie.
