FormKönnen / Könnten Sie mir sagen, + W-Wort/ob … Verb (Ende)?
Meaning and usage
A direct question to a stranger can sound abrupt, so people usually put it inside a polite frame: Können Sie mir sagen, wo der Bahnhof ist?, Wissen Sie, wann der nächste Zug fährt?, Könnten Sie mir sagen, wie man zu Ihrem Büro kommt? The frame is a question, but the embedded part is a subordinate clause, with the verb at the end.
A yes/no question goes in with ob: Wissen Sie, ob hier noch ein Platz frei ist? The common mistake is keeping question order inside the frame: Können Sie mir sagen, wo ist der Bahnhof? The whole sentence still ends with a question mark.

Correct answer: wo
The speaker wants a place, so the embedded question starts with wo, and the verb ist goes to the end.
- ob is for a yes/no question; this one asks for a place.
- was asks about a thing, not a place.
- wohin asks about a direction of movement, but ist describes where something is.
