Formwarten auf + Akkusativ
Meaning and usage
warten goes with auf + accusative: Ich warte auf den Bus, Warten Sie auf mich!, Wir warteten auf einen Zug. The preposition is part of the verb and cannot be worked out from English for, so learn warten auf as one unit.
For a thing, the preposition fuses with da-: Ich warte darauf; in questions Worauf wartest du? For a person: Auf wen wartest du? The common mistake is copying English: Ich warte für den Bus. Note also that auf stays accusative even though nothing moves: auf den Bus, not auf dem Bus.
