FormDeshalb / Deswegen + Verb + Subjekt …
Meaning and usage
deshalb, deswegen, darum and daher mean that's why, so. They introduce the consequence: Ich bin krank. Deshalb bleibe ich zu Hause. They are connecting adverbs, not conjunctions: in position 1 they take up the whole first place, so the verb comes straight after them and the subject follows: Deswegen gehe ich jetzt schlafen.
They can also stand later in the clause, after the verb: Er ist nett, und ich arbeite deshalb gern mit ihm. Note the direction: weil and denn introduce the cause, deshalb the result. The classic mistake is keeping subject-verb order: Deshalb ich bleibe zu Hause.
