Formgegen + Akkusativ (Nomen oder Uhrzeit)
Meaning and usage
gegen is a preposition that always takes the accusative. It has two common meanings. With people, teams, ideas or problems it means against: gegen den Plan, gegen die Regeln, gegen die Schmerzen. Before a clock time it means around or about: gegen acht Uhr, gegen Mitternacht. The article after gegen follows the gender of the noun: gegen den for masculine, gegen die for feminine, gegen das for neuter.
Learners often use the dative after gegen because many German prepositions take the dative. That is a mistake: gegen dem Plan is not German. The correct form is always accusative: gegen den Plan. When gegen means around a time, no article is used: gegen sechs Uhr.

Correct answer: gegen
gegen before a clock time means around or about, so gegen acht Uhr is the natural phrase for an approximate meeting time. The other prepositions do not express an approximate time.
- durch means through and does not express an approximate time.
- ohne means without and cannot introduce a time.
- für means for and does not fit before a clock time in this sense.
