Formso + ein-Wort (Singular) / solch- + der-Wort (meist Plural)
Meaning and usage
English uses one phrase, such a or such, where German usually has two patterns. In the singular you normally use so plus an ein-word: so ein Auto, so eine Idee, so ein schönes Wetter. Here ein declines like the ordinary article: so einen Mann, so einer Frau.
In the plural you normally use solche, which declines like a der-word: solche Fragen, mit solchen Leuten. Solche can also appear in the singular, especially with feminine nouns like solche Angst, but for A2 you can treat the plural as its home. The typical mistake is mixing the two patterns, for example saying so solche Fragen or solche ein Auto; pick one pattern and decline it fully.

Correct answer: solchen
After mit the plural noun Leuten is in the dative, so the der-word takes the dative plural ending -en: solchen Leuten.
- Solche is the nominative or accusative plural form, but mit Leuten is dative here.
- So einem would fit a singular dative noun, but Leuten is plural.
- So ein belongs to the singular pattern and cannot combine with a dative plural noun.
